NBA 2K22 released the first player ratings for the 2021-2022 NBA season. But as players outplay their initial ratings or are underwhelming on the court, an 85 can turn into an 87, or it could drop to an 83. So which players could see a jump in ratings over the course as the season progresses?
LaMelo Ball
To start 2K22, LaMelo Ball will be an 84 overall rating. LaMelo Ball found his way toward the top of the player ratings after his Rookie of the Year campaign. The Hornets' rookie is averaging 11.8 pts, 6.8 rebs, and 6.1 assists in 14 games, all as a reserve. The 6-foot-6 point guard seemingly has an all-NBA caliber future ahead of him, and if he builds on his rookie season, he can easily shoot up the rating list.
Zach Lavine
Zach Lavine, easily the biggest name on the Chicago Bulls roster right now, was given an 87 rating this year in NBA 2K22. Last season, LaVine, 26, averaged career-high averages in points (27.4), rebounds (5.0), and assists (4.9) while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from 3-point range. Could get bumped up a few points if he carries an improved Bulls' squad to a hot start.
Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young received an 89 overall rating in NBA 2K22. Young was one of the best offensive players in the NBA in 2019-20, averaging 29.6 points per game while earning his first All-Star selection. His scoring dropped slightly in 2020-21, but he still averaged 25.3 points and 9.4 assists per game while leading the Hawks to the playoffs for the first time in four years. Young is another candidate to receive a jump in his overall rating if he picks up after carrying the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Zion Williamson
On NBA 2K22, the current version of Zion Williamson has an Overall 2K Rating of 89. The number one pick of the 2019 draft is blessed with ridiculous athleticism. Since his arrival, he shows it on a nightly basis with the New Orleans Pelicans. Last season, he led the league in field goal percentage for any player averaging over 20 points per game with 61.1% efficiency from the field. Williamson also averaged a whopping 27 points per game, which ranked eighth in the league, along with 7.2 boards a night. If he does end up vaulting into MVP-level status, Williamson could see his player ratings leap a few notches as well.
Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum has a rating of 90 in NBA 2K22. Tatum's numbers last season were certainly impressive. He averaged 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, shouldering a greater burden within the Celtics' offense. While he missed out on an All-NBA nod, he did make his second All-Star team and cemented himself as one of the best players in the league. If he does end up vaulting into MVP-level status, Tatum could see his player ratings leap a few notches as well. Want to use him in MyTEAM?
